Devotional Example – Sorry Charlie

I have lacked confidence my entire life. Have you? I also struggle with perfectionism which I believe is the root cause of my low confidence.

I look at a task and comprehend what must be done to complete it. Quite often my lack of experience and my inner voice (Charlie) tells me that the end result will not meet my high standards. So my confidence drops and with it my desire to even try.

These personal issues spill over into my faith and ministry leaving me paralyzed occasionally.

We are imperfect people serving a perfect God and we all have a Charlie. Even Moses said, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” God said, “But I will be with you.” (Exodus 3:10-12)

Lately I’ve heard that inner voice of doubt and I say to him, “Sorry Charlie, not today!” choosing the voice of truth instead.

The Lord gave us his Holy Spirit to be our helper. He desires that we take baby steps in our faith.

We are like toddlers grasping the thumbs of our Father standing over us. He’s cheering us on as he helps us. He lets go, we stumble, we fall, it’s not perfect, but we learn to walk.

Our confidence is in our Father, our Helper, who never leaves or forsakes his children.

Truly,

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
